Moving Along...

No changes from Con/Mom, but she is enjoying her pretty yard!  Her fur baby is getting some much needed air and so are the rest of us! :)
I think I have become the official bird feeder as Dad/Dave is working a bit more now. The finch get their thistle, the Baltimore orioles get their grape jelly and the rest of their fowl feathered friends get the wild seed mix.

Sister Sue has been the weeding Queen (or should we say Goddess?) and granddaughter Gracie will assist in the garden for summer work.

I helped Con/Mom with some beauty maintenance this week and she is looking as beautiful as ever! There's a quiet peacefulness about her now, but she longs for her right arm to start moving. The left hand/side is getting a lot of use, but is far from replacing the functions of her dominant side.  Of course she is doing her daily exercises and is building strength for her return to therapy in a few months, but she's in a mundane plateau right now and faith surely comes into play during this time. We're even doing chair and aqua yoga!

Many thanks to Mr. Pinochle for stopping in last night to look at the AC.  Come to find out the Griffore's annual winter guests of house mice built quite the large home in the unit and snacked on some wires. Nothing Dad/Dave can't fix with a little help from their good friend!

As we approach the month of June we also reflect back on this amazing couple as they celebrate 50 years of marriage! Yes, the big 5-0 on June 4!  They want to celebrate quietly, but feel free to send well wishes to these childhood love birds.  If we could only emulate their love the world would be a better place. Here's just a few memories of their journey together:

A New Phase: Therapy Break

Con/Mom is doing well. All therapies are breaking now and she has the summer to work on her own (with her #1 buddy, of course) and increase strength and energy.  We had two weeks of chair yoga, too!  Challenging with Jack, but we may get her back in my studio very soon! :)

Dave/Dad has been working more and Con/Mom is enjoying some time on her own, with some visitors, too.  They are getting used to a new routine and trying to adjust to their new way of life, for the moment.  We're getting Con/Mom out more and she even came to the hospital with Dad/Dave to visit my father-in-law who was in hospice on Mother's Day.  We held hands for a prayer circle with the Chaplin and he passed away the next day. :(  Funeral is this Saturday and they'll be there for that, too!  We were able to get in a family brunch later that day, too!

Today, we are all lunching so she can catch up with my husband's sons who are in for the funeral.  No Heart Walk this year since it is this Saturday, but many thanks again for those who donated.  Maybe Con/Mom will join us next year!

She still has yet to tackle the golf course and/or putting green, but we're waiting for good weather.  I think just being there will lift her spirits and keep that positive attitude going!

Sue has Monday's off now so between the two of us we're getting in some nice time with our Mom. We've always been close, but this is a different kind of close that is hard to explain.  She's unloading the dishwasher (left handed) at home as well as doing laundry so that gives her a few things to do during the day.  No bridge this week, but I'm sure they'll be more soon!  She's a card shark by nature!

Hope you are all doing well.  Prayers continue and we will keep you posted on any new news....

A New Month!

Con/Mom is always moving forward in her mind even if her body takes a break.  Unfortunately there are plateaus and occasionally there will be valleys.  Just opening their pool yesterday brought enthusiasm to her face and heart!

All of her therapy suggest a break so she can develop strength and energy, but they may continue her OT, which is for her arm and hand.  She loves Donna, her therapist, and she does whatever she says! I am starting Con/Mom back in yoga on Tuesday, baby steps, of course.  We'll see if Jack doesn't knock her over or we'll have to come back to my studio.

Con/Mom has a busy week ahead with two bridge games/groups and a couples golf league with Dad/Dave Friday night.  She might do some putting or it will just be nice to see some good friends and enjoy the nice weather that is on the way.

Progress also continues with her speech and cognitive functions.  I'm trying to teach her to use Siri to make appointments on her phone. Not sure if she'll get the left hand down first or the speech required for Siri.....either way, there are always options and new ways to function.

In two weeks the American Heart and Stroke Assoc. Heart Walk commences on May 14.  I will be walking for Mom and others as I have done so for many years!  This is my last call out for donations. Even the smallest amount can assist in research in heart disease and stroke!  Thanks to all who have already contributed.  Have a heart!
